The 3 fundraising tasks I've handed to Claude (AI)

Hi Reader,

By this point, you probably know that ChatGPT and Claude should not be used for searches that you could easily google, or simple drafting. There are much more effective ways to use AI!

Here are the 3 things I've stopped doing manually and have handed off to Claude (my preferred AI):

  1. Donor research and creating donor briefs. This alone has completely revolutionized my schedule. I used to spend hours researching donors, looking up their networth and estimating their capacity. Now, I ask Claud to research the donor, provide me with a clear donor briefing on their background, interests, and philanthropic engagements. And then I spend the time I saved thinking about thoughtful talking points. It's made me much more intentional and present for my meetings!
  2. First drafts of anything I write on a regular basis. Thank yous, event invites, reminder emails...the things you write a version of every single week. I've created a project in Claude with exactly what I've sent in the past so it's using my personal preferences and expertise. Then I share who it's for, what it's about, what tone I want, and it gives me a first draft in seconds. NOTE: I never, ever paste in real donor names or gift details. I use placeholders like [DONOR NAME] and a general gift range, then personalize by hand once the draft comes back. Remember, AI can make your life efficient, but should NEVER replace your human to human connection.
  3. A second set of eyes on my asks before they go out. Before a grant proposal, sponsorship letter, or board plan goes out the door, I'll ask Claude: "what is unclear? What is unconvincing?" Claude then catches any weaknesses or blindspots I have (especially after spending so much time on one proposal). It's not replacing my judgment. It's a second read, like handing it to a colleague who has 30 seconds and no context.
