But when it’s time to make the ask… it just feels off. Here’s a typical example I see all the time: “Hi Sarah, I hope you're doing well! I wanted to let you know we're raising money for our program again this year and really need your support. Any amount would help. Let me know if you’d be willing to donate. Thanks so much!” Let’s break it down:
Now, let’s rewrite that ask with purpose and clarity: “Hi Sarah—thank you again for being part of our mission to create safe, supportive spaces for teen girls. This fall, we have 42 students on our program waitlist. A gift of $______ would cover mentorship and materials for two girls for the full semester. Would you consider making that possible?” Here’s what this version does differently:
